The Five Love Languages Series: Gifts

A Mocha For Your Tuesday

Sep 5, 2017

We’ve been talking about some powerful marriage building this past month! We’re up to the third love language this week, and it’s all about gift. Gifts are pretty self-explanatory, but they’re super powerful for those who speak that language. :)

People who love getting gifts aren’t necessarily greedy for things. The actual gift has so much less to do with it than the intention behind it. The fact that you’re taking the thought/time/effort/money to make that gift happen counts the most. And if there isn’t much thought that goes into it, the gift loses some of its effectiveness in speaking the language.

The more your spouse feels like you’ve chosen a very specific gift especially with him or her in mind, the more powerful it becomes. Chocolates are always a good move (trust me, I know. I used to manage a chocolate store…), but what if you included a gift card to her favorite chocolate boutique because she loves to shop at that mall and always wishes she could stop in and get a treat, but she always makes herself walk by that delicious-smelling shop because she doesn’t feel like she has a reason for splurging on “special occasion chocolates”?

This applies to all of your relationships, not just marriage! One of our sweet vendor friends sent me a surprise gift in the mail a few months ago. Get this: it was a coffee mug filled with Jane Austen quotes.

I mean, come on! Coffee? And Jane Austen? AND quotes? All at the same time?

I’m always blown away by the thoughtfulness of any gift, but the fact that Linda took the time to send me a gift that incorporated three of my very favorite things made me feel even more loved!

So back to marriage! Does your husband feel super loved when you give a gift that was picked out especially for him? How can you be sure to fill that love language?

Here’s to building strong marriages!

*hugs*
