Cereal and Snickers

A Mocha For Your Tuesday

Mar 1, 2016

Fun story from our dating days:

Joel and I met at college when I was a freshman and he was a sophomore. (Covenant College rocks, by the way!) We both transferred to other colleges a couple months after that to pursue our degrees (super sad!). Since we had a long distance relationship, I usually spent spring break with him at his parents’ house in Alabama.

So Joel is pretty tall. Okay, so he’s really tall.

The rest of his family is tall, too. And you know that little cabinet above the refrigerator that most people use to store vases and other random things that you rarely use? Well, Joel’s family keeps their cereal there. It makes sense – and they can all reach it just fine.

Until me. :)

I studied like crazy in college (yes, I was one of those), so I usually got up at the break of dawn on spring break to squeeze in some homework before the rest of the family got up.

Being super hungry, I had a dilemma. How was I going to reach the cereal without waking up Joel to get it for me?

So up onto the counter I climbed, socks and all. It made for a slightly slippery situation. As I was reaching over the basket of fruit that sits on top of the fridge and toward the cabinet, Joel walks in. Followed by his dad.

Snickering, I might add.

And my shy, trying-to-impress-his-family little self got caught red handed climbing up on the counter to try to find my breakfast!

I was horrified then, but we still laugh about it today!

Relationships are filled with the one-of-a-kind stories that make it just perfect. :)

So funny! All these years, and I don’t think I ever heard that story.
