If you spend any time on Pinterest or wedding blogs, you’ll see all kinds of gorgeous, emotional photos of a bride getting ready for the wedding. Mom zipping up her dress with the bridesmaids laughing in the background, the perfect shade of lipstick being applied, and the veil adding that final magical finishing touch.
But what if your church’s getting ready room is a nursery with no windows? Or the basement room with green walls and stained-glass windows?
We’re talking about some ways to get amazing getting ready shots on the J&A Blog today! It might take a little re-arranging, but the results will be worth it!
- If you don’t have a getting-ready room that has huge and gorgeous windows, find a place in your venue that does. You can do your finishing touches – like lipstick, the final dress zip-up, and accessorizing with earrings and other pieces of jewelry – near the window. Having that huge, amazing natural light source will make your pictures look dreamy! (Tip: think about getting ready at a nearby hotel, especially if it features a white bedspread – those room-sized windows are perfect!)
- Make sure you keep the getting ready room clutter free. Encourage your bridesmaids to store all their stuff in a single, out-of-the-way place. Having clothes and other essentials strewn around can be distracting in pictures and make the effect a little less like a fairy-tale. It also means your photographer can spend more time capturing the moments and less time clearing out the space.
- Find a getting-ready room that has enough space for everyone to comfortably fit! It can be difficult when all your girls are trying to share a small space. It also helps keep the clutter under control when there are plenty of places to stash it. *Tip: Think about booking two adjoining hotel rooms. You can stash all your stuff in one while keeping the other clutter-free for pictures. It also gives you lots of space to breathe!
- The color of the walls actually makes a difference! Did you know that when light reflects off a wall and falls on you, the light can be tinted with the wall color? Look for a room that has white walls, if possible, or another similar color.
- Ask your bridesmaids and mom to get into their dresses before you get into yours. Having everyone fully-dressed will give a polished look to your pictures as they help you get into your dress and complete other finishing touches. It also helps your getting ready shots coordinate with your wedding’s color palette!
We hope this helps you find the perfect spot to create those dreamy getting-ready shots we all love!
*hugs*
