Nerf Guns and Relationship Goals {Building Marriage}

A Mocha For Your Tuesday

Jun 27, 2017

There are so many hilarious relationship memes floating around social media sporting the hashtag #relationshipgoals

I still get a kick out of that classic nerf fight. It’s been around forever and I still love it. You know, the one where the husband comes home from work to a note from his wife challenging him to a nerf gun fight?

Definitely a relationship goal.

But digging past the humor, what are your relationship goals for your marriage?

In the world of business, it’s important to have goals and visions so you know where you’re ultimately trying to go. There are so many distractions that come up and so many tempting detours along the way. If you have a clear vision of what your goals are and how you’re going to get there, it’s much easier to decipher good opportunities from the distractions.

The same principle applies to marriage! When you and your spouse both have a clear vision of what you want your relationship to look like in 1, 5, 10, and 20 years, you’ll know which steps you need to take to get there.

Do you see the way your grandparents have stayed faithful and loving toward each other for 60 years and want that for yourselves? Through thick and thin – in the easy times and the tough ones – that goal is going to give you a clear reward to work toward.

Do you want your kids to have an example of a marriage where both partners are respected? The respect starts now, sometimes before kids are even in the picture.

This goes for all kinds of things that affect your relationship – spending time together as a family, getting out of debt, exploring the world, becoming foster parents.

Creating #relationshipgoals to work toward sets expectations for both of you. You know where you’re going, the direction you’ll take to get there, and how to eliminate the distractions. Working as a team makes it so much better!

What are you relationship goals? This week, take a few minutes to talk with your spouse about what you want your marriage to look like in a year and how you’re going to get there!

*hugs*
