Florals are a stunning part of the wedding day. Wedding bouquets add a fun pop of color, extra personality, and sweet delicate scents that you get to carry around all day. Plus it’s an amazing prop to pose with on the wedding day.
Yep, we’re fans.
Today’s wedding planning Tidbit is all about 3 bouquet mistakes that are easy to make on the wedding day. Most of us brides accidentally do all 3 of these without thinking about it.
The good news? We’re sharing an easy to remember solution to help you avoid each one!
Keeping your bouquet at proper height is helpful for lots of reasons:
First, it makes sure the gorgeous bodice of your wedding dress isn’t hidden by the flowers.
Holding your flowers at the proper height also keeps your elbows slightly bent, which is really flattering for girls. Too high and your elbows are at a harsh angle. Too low and you lose the flattering window of space between your waist and your arm.
Lastly, it keeps your shoulders relaxed. When you hold your bouquet high, your shoulders will scrunch up with it.
Solution: Keep your wrist near your hip bone. It will keep your bouquet at the proper height and help relax your shoulders.
Tip: A lot of advice will tell you to keep your bouquet at belly button height. While this is totally true, I’ve found that it leaves too much room for interpretation. Does your hand go at your belly button? Or does the top of your bouquet need to be belly button height? Using the wrist-to-hip-bone rule is easier to feel confident about!
You might laugh at this one, but it’s way more common than you might think. Especially with the trend of cascading greenery in the bouquet, it’s not always totally obvious which way is up, down, front, or back.
Most classic bouquets with ribbon-wrapped stems have a row of pearl-tipped pins holding the ribbon in place. These pins will be the back of the bouquet – and you’ll keep those facing toward you.
If it doesn’t have pins and the florist isn’t on hand to ask, use a mirror. Florists are good at designing these bouquets. There’s a rhyme and reason to how they designed it, so reposition it until you find what looks and feels right!
Solution: Hold the bouquet a few different angles in front of the mirror and see which position both looks and feels natural.
Just like accidentally holding the bouquet too high, it’s easy to forget to tilt your bouquet toward the camera.
It sometimes feels a little funny to be tilting out your flowers, but it displays your bouquet to its best advantage! Whether its for the camera or for your guests’ enjoyment as you walk down the aisle, try to tilt your bouquet away from you just a little bit.
Solution: Gently tilt your bouquet away from you an inch or two. Practice in front of the mirror to see how much tilt your particular bouquet needs to look amazing!
Bonus! These same tips apply to bridesmaids and their bouquets, too.
Happy flower holding!
