A Marriage Lesson I’ll Never Forget

A Mocha For Your Tuesday

“Many marriages would be better if the husband and wife clearly understood that they are on the same side.”

~Zig Ziglar

This is a lesson that Joel has taught me in our own marriage. One time, during a particularly stressful time in my life, there was an issue that came up. In hindsight, it was pretty minor. But you know how it is when you’re stressed to the max – everything seems detrimental.

So a conflict arose where Joel and I disagreed on what I should do in this particular situation. I took out my frustration on him. Poor guy. I knew it wasn’t his fault, but I allowed my very frustrated self to make him the enemy in this situation.

Then he said something I’ll never, ever forget.

He said, “Amber. Remember that I’m on your side. No matter what.”

We found resolution and everything worked out fine. But that argument is one that I remember because of how Joel quietly reminded me that we’re not enemies, even when we disagree.

In our marriage, we’re a team. We’re just two imperfect people trying our best to live our lives for God. We’re just two imperfect people trying to pour our hearts into the time and opportunities God has given us.

And knowing that you have someone who is always on your side is one of the great blessings of marriage.

*hugs*
