I know we can’t be the only ones wondering where 2018 went! With every year that passes and every New Year’s Day we celebrate, we’re so thankful that God has brought us through another year. Through the highest highs and the lowest lows, He is faithful. Every year.
Do you have business dreams that you want to accomplish? Maybe dreams of things you want to do as a family or how you want to improve over 2018?
Whatever your heart desires for this coming year, we want to encourage you to start taking the first little step toward that!
Goal setting and small actions are a huge part of our business and personal lives. Over the years of being business owners, we’ve learned the power of step-by-step progress. The most important thing when it comes to making things happen is to start.
You have to start. The worst time to do something is “tomorrow”, because tomorrow so often never comes. You get to a New Year’s celebration and wonder where the time went.
Is this the year you want to eat healthy and get into shape? Do you want a family vacation to Disney? Organize your house (and you don’t mean shoving it into the nearest closet) or build a relationship? Is it finally time to start an Etsy shop or run a 10k?
Wherever your dreams are taking you this year, take the time to write it down. Just write it down. Did you know that you’re 42% more likely to accomplish your goals when you write them down where you can see them regularly?
Tiny action steps. Little by little is how the biggest dreams are accomplished. Losing 20 pounds by eating healthy and going to the gym every day is hard to do without knowing the roadmap of how you want to get there.
Start by packing a healthy lunch and going to the gym three times a week. Doable, right? Set yourself up for success by scheduling those gym days on your calendar and collecting 3 healthy lunch recipes that are quick and easy to prep the night before.
We can all agree that this is the hardest part, and one of the most vital. It’s not always easy, especially once the excitement wears off.
But…this is where your action steps come in! You have to set yourself up for success by staying on top of small, easy to accomplish steps along the way. Action steps don’t have to be huge. Can you find 20 minutes to walk a mile around your neighborhood? Put it on your schedule, pop in some headphones, and get it done!
Very few of us are super-hero enough to never falter in our intentions. We all have days where we just can’t make ourselves go to the gym after work. Or your tight schedule means that you only have 10 minutes to go for a job. Then there’s always a piece of chocolate cake or a Little Rosie’s taco that’s just too much to resist.
And guess what? It’s okay! You just have to make sure that your good habits outweigh the splurges most of the time. Done is better than perfect. Two steps forward and one step back is better than staying where you are.
I love goal setting and could talk forever on this, but I’ll save it for another day. I just want to encourage you to accomplish those things you know you can do but never really get around to doing. Little by little, with intentional planning, you really can look back at 2019 as one of your favorite years yet!
Happy 2019!! We’re cheering you on!
*hugs*
