An Attitude Becomes A Mindset And A Way of Life {Building Marriage}

A Mocha For Your Tuesday

Jul 11, 2017

He doesn’t take out the trash. Again.

You sigh quite loudly, roll your eyes, and do it yourself.

“He’s just so lazy sometimes. I don’t even ask him to do that much.”

He comes home late from work and dropped on the couch in front of the TV after dinner, leaving you to clean the kitchen after cooking the meal that you rushed home from work yourself to make.

“I sure wish he’d help out more. He helps if he’s in a good mood, but I always have to pick up all the slack when he’s not!”

And over the course of time, you begin to reinforce your negative thoughts about your husband sharing daily responsibilities. Those bitter thoughts become part of how you view your spouse and your relationship.

Instead of reinforcing the negativity by allowing yourself to repeatedly indulge in “woe is me” thoughts, open up the communication! Talk about how these situations make you feel before the poison of resentment does its damage! Ask him how he feels about it. Ask him to help find a way to resolve this conflict.

And this goes for us girls, too. :) We have our share of things that frustrate him repeatedly, and working out the conflict before repeated negative attitudes become resentment is vital.

Just like the saying that “Practice doesn’t always make perfect. Practice makes permanent.” Reinforcing negative thoughts become an attitude, and an attitude becomes a mindset. A mindset colors your entire relationship.

How about reinforcing positive thoughts instead?

This week, identify two areas that have become small, nagging sources of repeated conflict that bring about negative thoughts. Get them out in the open and let your spouse know that you no longer want to be resentful.

*hugs*
