Anna & Graham // Downtown Decatur Engagement

The fact that this downtown Decatur engagement session was really supposed to be in the middle of a rainstorm is a story in itself. Between all four of our crazy schedules and a few other factors, we found one magical date: December 31st. New Year’s Eve sounded like a very romantic time for an engagement session and we happily added it to our calendar.

As the days grew closer, so did the rainclouds. You can never quite tell what to expect in the south – sometimes I don’t even look at the forecast until 2 days before because it’s guaranteed to do a 180 degree turn within the next 48 hours. But the forecast was not on our side this time! After weighing our options, we all decided to go in faith, pray hard, and take a chance on that southern forecast!

And….the afternoon was perfect. A little windy, for sure, but we had a little sliver of blue sky cheering us on.

We hardly needed any “practice” time to get Anna and Graham comfortable in front of the camera – they just started nailing it! I think one of my (many) favorite shots from this session is one of the very first pictures we snapped – where they’re just laughing at each other. That moment to me is so real. It started off as kind of a “we’re still figuring out this engagement session thing” giggle and turned into “this is fun and I adore you” laugh.

We brought over a quilt that Anna cuddles up in when she visits Graham – one that he’s had forever. The cold, windy day made the quilt even more cuddly!

In case you were wondering, the promised downpour came right after we got in our cars to leave. We couldn’t have asked for better timing. :)
