Do you have any fun childhood memories that still make you super happy?
One of my very favorite childhood hobbies was reading. If I had some free time, 99% of the time I was curled up somewhere with a book.
Not only that, but I read several at one time. I kept a book in the living room, a book in my bedroom, a book in the car, a book in my backpack…
That way I’d have something to read no matter where I went.
So funny! :)
I absolutely loved The Boxcar Children series. It’s the story of four kids who ran away to live in a boxcar when their parents died. At the end of the first book, they’re united with the grandfather they had never met and go to live with him. After that, each book in the series follows the Alden kids on an adventure where they take a fun trip somewhere and solve a mystery. (A castle, anyone? An island in the South Seas? A bike trip? Maybe this is where my love for traveling came from!)
One of my favorite hobbies now is perusing thrift shops, used bookstores, and yard sales to find The Boxcar Children books for my collection. My rule is that I can’t just go online and buy them. That would be too easy! I love the treasure hunt almost as much as the satisfaction of of coming across a book in the series that I don’t yet have in my collection!
Reading my Boxcar Children books (yes, I still often do!) brings me back to those amazing days when running out of books before Library Day was one of my biggest concerns. It reminds me of a simpler time in life when I could get lost in all kinds of adventures.
Don’t be afraid to embrace those fun things that colored your childhood with happiness. You’re never too old to read a Boxcar Children book. :)
What childhood memories do you still love to do? We want to hear them! Tell us in the comments below!
