Something we’ve really been focusing on lately is intentionally serving others.
It’s amazing how it has transformed our view on so many things.
While we’ve always loved to help others whenever we got a chance, we haven’t always thought much about being intentional.
We’ve discovered that it puts so much spark into the simple, mundane things in life.
As a part-time dental hygienist, sometimes the prospect of repeating the same process 10 or 12 times in one day brings out just a little sigh as I pull up my schedule. But then I discovered something. As each patient settles into my chair and I begin to go start the whole process over again, I ask myself a question.
I ask myself, “How can I love and serve this person today? How can I make their lives richer because they chose to come to come see me?”
As I pray silently for each patient that sits in my chair (because no, I’m not one of those hygienists who talks constantly while your mouth is wide open…), I ask that God would direct my words and actions to give them something they need that day.
I intentionally look for ways to encourage, ways to put a smile on their faces. I listen to their responses with genuine interest to discover what they need just at that moment.
This isn’t to talk about what a great hygienist I am. I want to encourage you to be intentional about finding ways to serve others. It’s such a small thing to do, but it’s an amazing way to bless and build up others.
Once you start looking for ways to encourage, you’ll be blown away at what you discover!
You never know how powerful a little love can be.
