I had a special opportunity to capture a small, intimate wedding ceremony last weekend for sweet Diane and her new husband, Darrel. When Diane reach out to us a fews weeks ago about photographing an intimate ceremony for them, we were both thrilled to discover that their wedding landed on one of our very last available dates this year!
One thing I love about them is how important their mutual faith is in both their lives and their relationship. Their first date involved hours of conversation, much of it talking about their faith! I loved my time at our first meeting with Diane just learning about them and their stories. Darrel, for example, writes historical fiction. Diane has a background in advising yearbook and student newspaper groups, so she has a lot of experience to add. They’re working on a series together right now!
Another fun fact: Diane was the wedding coordinator at St Mary of the Visitation church for 10 years!
Their August wedding day was bright and full of sunshine, in true Alabama fashion. After the ceremony and some family formals, we headed outside for just a couple minutes to sneak in just a few natural light shots outside in the garden! None of us minded heading back into the air conditioning shortly after, but braving the August afternoon heat was totally worth it.
I photographed this wedding as a single shooter, and I just have to give a shout out to our assistant, Kerry! She’s always ready to lend a hand whenever we need her, and we love having her as part of our team! She helped me deal with all the equipment and to get our lights set up quickly and efficiently so we could make the most of the time that we had with Diane and Darrel. You’re the best, Kerry!
St Mary of the Visitation is such a gorgeous old church. Completed in 1877, it’s the oldest Catholic church in Alabama. Photographing weddings there is always a joy! And that courtyard garden makes our photographer’s hearts very happy.
Enjoy a little peek into this intimate wedding ceremony at Mary of the Visitation!
