Wedding Planning Tips // Huntsville Wedding Photographers

A few weeks ago, we talked with Morgan from White Dresses to get the inside scoop on the wedding dress timeline.

We also talked about the consultation and shopping tips, and today we’re sharing that with you guys!

We’ll find out what a bride can expect from the initial dress consultation, as well as tips for finding the perfect dress!

This consultation is an experience all in itself. For me, the moment I found my dress was the moment everything started to feel so real! It was like a critical piece fell into the picture I had in my head, and now I could envision what the day was going to look like.

What is the initial dress consultation all about?

Your dress consultation give you a chance to try on all different dress styles with the help of a professional consultant. It’s a different experience and feel entirely because wedding dresses are not made like anything else you’ve ever worn.

The material, the style, the fit – everything is unique.

Let’s talk about tips for finding the perfect dress!

1. Consider the style and vibe of your wedding day when choosing a dress style.

2. Have an open mind about trying different styles before making a final selection.

3. Know your budget.

4. Ask your dress consultant which styles work best with your body type (or find some tips from this Brides.com article)

The Details

Your wedding dress will set the stage for your entire bridal look. The wedding tone also comes into play with your dress choices.

Will your wedding be modern? Formal? Have a strong southern vibe? Vintage or boho? Classy and elegant?

When you walk into the dress boutique, plan to come in with an open mind. So many times, a bride will be adamant about a certain style until she starts trying on the dresses. Maybe the style doesn’t fit her body type like she imagined, or maybe she just fell in love with a different style altogether.

It’s helpful to come in with an idea of what you want to start with, but be open to trying all different styles before you say yes or no. It never hurts to try it on!

Budget also comes into play when you’re choosing a dress. Start with a budget, and know how far you’re willing to stretch your budget if your dream dress comes with a higher price tag.

How should I prepare for my first consultation?

Jump on Pinterest or grab some bridal magazines to start collecting styles you love. By gathering the style ideas and bringing them to your consultation, you’ll have a great starting place.

If someone else is helping you pay for the wedding, be sure to set some budget expectations before the consultation.

Decide who is coming with you! For more tips on handling all the advice, you can read more here.

Remember that sample dresses might not fit perfectly. Your consultant will help you get a vision for how the proper size will fit once it’s ordered.

How can my dress consultant help?

Your dress consultant is a valuable resource! She knows her stuff, so let her guide you through some great options. Once your consultant gets an idea of your wedding style and dream dress style, she’ll start pulling the dresses that match.

She’ll also walk you through details like alterations, accessories, preservation, and timeline.

Any final tips?

Don’t forget to add in the cost of alterations when planning your budget. Most alterations are additional.

Sample sales and trunk shows can be a great way to score an epic dress on a tighter budget! This goes the same for accessories.
