You’ve spent months and months planning the perfect day. The sun is shining, you hired the perfect wedding photographers *wink, wink*, and your dress is straight out of a fairy tale. The day whirls by and you’re just trying to soak it all in- people everywhere, little details, butterflies in your stomach…

How do you make your long-awaited wedding day everything you’ve ever dreamed it would be?

Today on the J&A Blog, we’re sharing 5 tips to help you enjoy your wedding day in the midst of the whirlwind of activity going on around you!

1. Hire A Wedding Planner

Whether you’ve had a planner work with you every step of the way or have a Day-of Coordinator, this person is invaluable in helping you create a smooth, perfect experience! The coordinator will keep track of all the details for you, take care of minor questions and issues that might pop up, and all sorts of other things. These planners are amazing, organized people that always seem to have an answer. Just what you need on the wedding day!

The best part – you won’t have to worry about a single thing! Hire someone who can see your vision for the day, then spend your time dreaming about that guy you’re about to marry.

2. Allow lots of time for getting ready in the morning.

One common mistake brides make is underestimating how long it takes to do all the preparations – from hair and makeup for all the girls, driving from the salon to the venue, bringing in all your stuff from the car, finding food, taking care of last minute things, etc, etc. You want to have plenty of “cushion time” to be able to do all these things and still have time to relax and enjoy the little moments without feeling rushed! So start your day bright and early – you’ll love the “chill” time you’ll have later!

3. Ask your vendors for advice.

You hand picked each vendor because you love them and love what they do! As you plan your day, reach out to your vendors for their recommendations. They’ve been to tons of weddings and have a good idea of how things realistically unfold. Talk to your photographer about how much time you should allot for the pictures (and what time the best light will be), ask your caterer for advice on when and how to serve different courses based on your schedule for the day, and ask your dress designer how to bustle the train for the reception.

Your vendors are a huge source of information for you, and they’re more than happy to help make your day run smoothly! They can help you create a realistic timeline for what to expect – which will help create a prepared, non-hectic experience on your wedding day!

4. Be well planned.

Don’t save any last minute details for the day of the wedding! If you do, delegate them well in advance for someone else to take care of. If you can’t decorate the venue until the morning of the wedding, do a practice set up with your decorators so they know exactly what you want everything to look like. Trust them to handle it from there!

Have someone in charge of making sure your dress, shoes, garter (super common thing to forget!), and rings (it happens!) are at the venue well ahead of time. If you don’t have a coordinator (see #1), appoint someone who knows most of the details of the wedding to be your go-to person for questions people may come across.

Delegate, delegate, delegate! When your wedding day comes, you want to be able to think about nothing but being the beautiful, amazing bride about to marry her Prince Charming. This day is all about you, so soak in every second!

5. Keep the right perspective!

Yes, things will happen. It might be a minor incident, or it could be something a little more involved. But do you know what? These things help make up your own, unique, exciting, a day to remember wedding day!

Every wedding has a story (or two!) to tell! Laugh it off, love it for what it is, and don’t let anything ruin your day! Everyone is taking cues from you – if you take everything in stride, your guests will be happy, too. Remember that this is YOUR day, and no little incident can take away the most important thing:

You are marrying the love of your life.

And therefore, this day is perfect.
